Glory to Jesus Christ!

Father John, Parish Council, and the Parishioners of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Carnegie, PA.

On behalf of the Guardians of the Metropolia of the UOC of the USA, I would like to thank you so much for hosting our 1st national fundraising event. At our recent annual meeting in February 2024, the Guardians of the Metropolia took on the large challenge of raising monies for Scholarships to support students of Saint Sophia’s Seminary in South Bound Brook NJ.

The following was taken from our Guardians Guiding Principles document.

  • As part of their mission, the Guardians of the UOC of USA will attempt to raise funds through annual membership pledges/sponsorships, fundraising projects, and additional donations from individuals and organizations. These funds will be dedicated towards growing the core ministries of the UOC of USA and its future.

After much discussion, the Guardians agreed that one of the best projects that we could do to affect the future of the UOC of the USA was to help raise scholarship funds for current students. At that meeting, we agreed to provide the money for one Scholarship for one year and to try and raise additional monies for a 2nd Scholarship. This fundraiser has helped get us well down the road toward a 2nd Scholarship.

We felt that your Parish was the perfect Parish to have our first national fundraiser since Saint Peter and Saint Paul’s Parish in Carnegie has had graduates from Saint Sophia’s Seminary serve as Priests and Deacons continuously since 1989.

Our goal was to raise $5,000 and we have raised over $6,600 and are awaiting a few additional checks to arrive in the mail. As we looked at who donated we found some interesting facts. Over ½ of the monies raised came from people who were not Parishioners of your Parish. Of the total monies raised about 1/3 of the monies are from people not connected to our faith directly. The “not connected directly donors” are friends and family members who are not Orthodox Christians and other people who found us because of the social media presence we had supporting this event. Based on who donated and their location this was truly a national fundraiser.

I think the event worked out well because we did not want to overburden your parish by supporting another fundraiser.

Again thank you and the parishioners of Saint Peter and Saint Paul for hosting us. We wish you great success with your upcoming Fall Festival in a few weeks.

Thank You!
